    Union Baptist Church

Union Baptist Church was founded in 1867. By 1871 its members worshipped in a railroad boxcar on Spruce Street.  In 1889 Union Baptist had an ideological schism and split into two congregations and Shiloh Baptist Church formed.  Today they are sister churches and formally worship twice a year.  In 1925 Union Baptist Church moved to its current location on 1921 Main Street.  Union Baptist Church has been a pillar in Hartford’s church community for over one hundred and twenty-five years.

The Church's façade of stone masonry, its interior arches and stained glass windows are reminders of the building traditions that fuse a variety of styles and elements. Union Baptist Church parishioners constructed their first major meeting facility on Mather street or Mahl. Although St. Monica's Episcopal Church has relocated, the building is still intact; a part of Union Baptist Church's history and Hartford's architectural heritage.
