    Boce Barlow House

Boce Barlow (1915-2005) was Connecticut's first African American State Senator. He was elected in 1966. His vision for his life, however, began early. After graduating from high school, Barlow chose to study law. He graduated cum laude from Howard University in Washington, D. C. in 1939. He applied to Harvard Law School. He was one of four African American students accepted in a class of 600 students. He was appointed a municipal judge in Hartford in 1957. He also served as a hearing examiner for Connecticut's Civil Rights Commission. As a Senator his support for social and political reforms helped insure the rights of full citizenship for all of Connecticut citizens.

Please note: Homes on the African American Trail are privately owned and it is to be assumed that the current residents do not wish to be subjected to visitation by the public.
