    Marietta Canty House

    Political activist, Republican, Humanitarian and Hollywood actress are just a few labels that can be placed on Hartford’s Renaissance Women Marietta Canty. She was born in 1905 and attended Hartford Public High School.  Marietta appeared in Emperor Jones in 1933, when she retired at the age of 51, Ms. Canty appeared on over 40 films.  She was a nurse, justice of the peace, and political candidate for city council, and served actively on several boards and organizations.
